Nonprofit Training That Holds Up Under Monitoring

Your fiscal staff turned over. The guidance changed again. And the last training your team sat through was general enough to apply to any organization in the room, which is why nobody remembers it. James Moore builds nonprofit financial and grant compliance training around the grants, funding structures, and questions your people are dealing with right now.

Our nonprofit team trains fiscal staff, program directors, executives, and boards for state associations, community action networks, state monitors, and grant-funded organizations across the country.

Most grant compliance training teaches the rule without teaching the situation. Staff can recite the definition of an allowable cost and still code a questionable expense to the wrong grant, because nobody walked them through what it looks like on your chart of accounts, under your cost allocation plan, with your pass-through requirements attached. The people who knew how all of it worked have retired or left.

Most of the money our clients receive arrives through state and local agencies, much of it federal dollars passed down. Two rulebooks at once, with no room for a general answer.

This is the gap most training programs never close.

Hands and heart

The people who have to get compliance right are rarely the ones who were trained for it. That is who we
teach.

A group of people are sitting in a board room. One man is standing in front of a large display that say "Mission". He is addressing the group of people sitting n the room.

We train:

  • State associations and state offices building curriculum for member agencies
  • State offices that administer and monitor grants
  • Head Start grantees, community action agencies, legal services organizations, and social justice nonprofits
  • Fiscal staff and grant managers, including those promoted into the role without a grants background
  • CFOs, finance directors, and executive directors
  • Board members and finance committees
  • Program directors who sign time and effort certifications
  • Conference and association audiences

60 Years Serving Nonprofit Organizations

Trainers are practicing CPAs who provide audit and accounting services and advise grant-funded organizations year-round.

How a Training Engagement Works

No two nonprofits face the same challenges, so no two training engagements look exactly alike. Most organizations start with a 12-month program that includes at least one webinar each quarter and an on-site session with your team. Topics and timing are built around your grants, your staff and the questions that come up during the year. We'll start with a conversation about what your team needs and build the plan from there.
