And that's what we've been about from the very beginning. Our founder, James F. "Jim" Moore, often said, "Service is the sole purpose of our existence." About Our Founder
James F. "Jim" Moore was born in 1925. He received a Master of Business Administration from Western Kentucky University in 1947 and a Master of Economics from Tulane University in 1948. He was a professor at the University of Florida before founding our firm in 1964.
Diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at the age of 14, Jim spent much of his life in his wheelchair. Yet he faced each day with a combination of tenacity, gratitude and grace. He preferred using the word "opportunity" instead of "obstacle." He was seldom without a smile and always had a kind and encouraging word for others.
Jim was active in both the accounting profession and the surrounding communities, serving on the boards of several organizations. After his retirement in 1983, he continued to practice as a CPA and business advisor until his passing in 1995. His legacy is not only as founder of James Moore & Co., but also as one who served his profession well and genuinely cared about helping others.

Our History
1964
The Beginning
Jim Moore, a member of the accounting faculty at the University of Florida, starts his own public accounting practice in Gainesville, Fla. The new venture consists of Jim, a fellow instructor & a secretary.
1980
Second Office
To accommodate an increasing client base and workforce, our firm opens a second office in Tallahassee, Florida.
1982
Third Office
Our firm’s expansion continues as it opens its third Florida office, this one in Daytona Beach, leading to its establishment as a regional CPA and consulting firm.
1995
Legacy
Jim Moore passes away, leaving a legacy of service to clients and community alike.
2010
Top 200 Firm
INSIDE Public Accounting recognizes James Moore as a “Top 200 Firm” in the nation—an honor our firm has received every year since.
2014
50th Anniversary
JMCo celebrates its 50th anniversary by fundraising for organizations that promote independence for individuals living with disabilities (in honor of its founder).
2015
Best Firm
James Moore is named by Accounting Today as a “Best Firm to Work For” for the first of several years.
2017
Fourth Office
Cohen, Smith & Company, P.A. joins James Moore to establish the firm’s fourth office in DeLand, Florida

Expanded Teams
The IT support division of Computer Network Experts joins the Technology Solutions Consulting team at James Moore.
2021
Fifth Office
Canopy 360’s Tax & Accounting division becomes James Moore's fifth office—this one located in Ocala, Florida.

for Women
The Accounting MOVE Project names James Moore a Best CPA Firm for Women and tabs the firm to its list of Top Firms for Equity Leadership for the fourth straight year.
