AST SpaceMobile, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASTS), a developer of space-based cellular broadband networks, has expanded its manufacturing operations with two new facilities in Texas and Florida. According to a company press release issued November 25, the expansion increases the company’s total manufacturing footprint to 500,000 square feet.
The space technology company has more than doubled its U.S. workforce over the past six months, now employing more than 1,800 professionals. The majority of employees are based at the company’s West Texas headquarters.
New Facilities And Production Capacity
The expansion includes a new manufacturing site in Midland, Texas, bringing AST SpaceMobile’s Texas presence to five facilities. The company has also opened a new facility in Homestead, Florida, adding to its existing operations in Maryland.
Abel Avellan, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of AST SpaceMobile, stated in the release that the expansion “allows us to increase capacity, strengthen our supply chain, and bring even more high-technology manufacturing work back to the United States” as the company accelerates production of its next-generation BlueBird satellites.
Vertical Integration And Technology
According to the company, AST SpaceMobile is 95 percent vertically integrated, manufacturing its BlueBird satellites from raw materials to finished spacecraft within its U.S. facilities. The satellites feature 2,400-square-foot phased-array antennas designed to deliver cellular broadband directly to standard smartphones.
The next-generation BlueBird satellites are expected to support peak data transmission speeds up to 120 Mbps, enabling voice, broadband data, and video applications. The company reports these satellites will deliver up to ten times the bandwidth capacity of current BlueBird satellites in orbit.
Launch Schedule And Partnerships
AST SpaceMobile announced that its next-generation satellite, BlueBird 6, is scheduled to launch on December 15 from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in India. The satellite will feature the largest commercial phased array ever deployed in low Earth orbit. BlueBird 6 is 3.5 times larger than previous BlueBird models and has ten times the data capacity.
The company is working with U.S. partners including AT&T, Verizon, American Tower, and Google to develop its space-based cellular network.
Financial Performance
In its third quarter 2025 earnings report, AST SpaceMobile posted earnings per share of negative $0.45, missing the forecasted negative $0.21. Revenue reached $14.7 million, compared to analyst expectations of $21.87 million. Despite these financial results, the company’s stock rose in aftermarket trading, according to reports, suggesting investor confidence in future developments.
Economic Impact
The expansion of manufacturing operations in Texas and Florida represents significant job creation in both states’ aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors. With more than 1,800 employees, AST SpaceMobile is contributing to the growing space technology industry presence in the Southeast and Southwest United States.
Florida’s Space Coast region has historically been a hub for aerospace activity, while West Texas has seen increased investment in space technology and manufacturing in recent years. The addition of these facilities supports regional economic development and creates high-skilled employment opportunities in engineering, manufacturing, and technology sectors.
