When the answer is clearly yes, when near-misses get reported and corrected rather than ignored, when inspections happen on schedule and protective equipment is available and enforced, that signal reaches the workforce. When the answer is no, it reaches them too, and they leave.

Treating workplace safety metrics as workforce data requires connecting two functions that typically operate separately. Safety and HR rarely share reporting structures, and safety incident data rarely makes it into the workforce planning conversations where headcount, scheduling and development decisions get made.

The practical integration means reviewing safety metrics alongside turnover and absenteeism data in regular operational reviews, factoring leading indicator trends by shift and department into scheduling decisions, and using near-miss and hazard report patterns to inform where training investment is needed.
