The New Norm

Beginning with real estate declines, governments began to see significant decreases in revenue. What initially was termed “The Great Recession” is now often referred to as “The New Norm.” For most governments the low-hanging fruit has long been gone. They are now focused on determining core services they want to provide and how to provide those services in the most efficient ways possible.

As governments are a cornerstone of our firm’s practice, James Moore strives to be more than simply a government auditor. We are continually focused on learning the business of government. It is not just about booking a transaction, but more about finding the solutions to tough problems.

Extensive research revealed to us one of government’s toughest problems – how to be the best they can be. In response, several professionals with James Moore became certified in Lean Six Sigma, which is a methodology focused on increased throughput and continued improvement.

The James Moore team also provides the following solutions to governments:

Our Governmental Services Team remains abreast in part by attending annual conferences supported by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the Florida Government Finance Officers Association (FGFOA). We are also active in our local FGFOA chapters, attending meetings and volunteering to do presentations on topics addressing Lean Six Sigma, internal controls, and financial reporting. We have also dedicated the time to continue our training to support government’s specific needs. This includes having five individuals trained specifically on CAFR review and development and five individuals certified in Lean Six Sigma methodologies. We pass what we learn on to our clients through in-house accounting and auditing updates, and to the government community as a whole through the dissemination of information through “live” webinar presentations and emails.
